Hi, I'm Natalie
I created Yoga Field & Sea in order to share with others the three things in my life that keep me sane: yoga, hiking and swimming in open water.
I’ve spent almost 20 years in demanding corporate jobs, with crazy long hours, tonnes of international travel and high expectations of me. Throw in raising three kids, living in different countries around the world, having severe scoliosis (a sideways curvature of the spine) and attempting to keep fit and healthy and you have one busy life! I experienced a fair amount of stress and pain over the years and oftentimes I was way off balance with too many hours at my desk or on a plane. The result of stress on your body as well as your mind is not to be underestimated.
Creating balance
I found a way to live pain-free, and a way to create balance in my life
I moved home from six years in Seattle to the beautiful South Hams region of Devon. Moving, with my family, back to my roots, living by the sea and finally ditching my corporate job, allowed me to teach more yoga (including founding my own beach side wellness studio – Start Bay Studio), hike more coastline and submerge into the sea every single day, all year round (no wetsuit!). I cannot even begin to describe the energising and invigorating feeling you get when you are submerged in the fresh cold salt water, or when you are hiking the cliff path in the howling wind and rain. It’s a feeling of being alive, and my body and my mind thank me for it every day.
You're in safe hands with Yoga, Field & Sea
The Yoga
I completed both my 200-hour and 500-hour yoga training in the US, and I’m passionate about making yoga feel transformative for everyone — whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or stepping onto the mat for the very first time. My teaching is rooted in the Iyengar tradition, blending intelligent alignment, supportive props, and precise guidance to help you move safely and confidently.
Retreat sessions are taught in a dynamic, workshop-style format that gives you the space to explore your body, truly understand the poses, and experience those lightbulb moments that shift your practice forever. Guests consistently leave feeling stronger, clearer, and inspired — with knowledge they can carry home and use for years to come.
The Hiking
I’ve covered mile after mile of the South West Coast Path and know the terrain, weather shifts, and tricky sections like the back of my hand, and I’m committed to making hiking safe, achievable, and enjoyable for everyone — whether you walk regularly or are tackling your first proper trail. I’m out there most days with my Vizsla, Rusty, swimmers in my pack and a coffee flask, checking routes, pacing climbs, and learning what conditions demand so I can guide others with confidence and clarity.
Our hikes are run in a practical, structured way that help people build stamina and move smartly over varied ground without risking injury or overwhelm. We cover any where from 5km of SW Coast path to 20km in one day depending on the trip you have chosen!
The Swimming
Swimming — especially long-distance and open-water swimming — is what keeps me grounded. I’m in the sea most days of the year (no wetsuit needed), and I love the freedom, power, and clarity it brings.
I’ve taken on big endurance swims like the Dart 10K and the Bantham 6K Swoosh, as well as long swimming adventures in Turkey and Montenegro. Closer to home, I regularly swim 2–5 km along the rugged South Devon coastline, exploring coves, currents, and headlands in all seasons.
I’m also part of the Dartmouth Swimming Club Masters team and trained in swim rescue as a Level 2 Intermediate First Aider — so you’re always in safe, experienced hands whenever we head into the water together.
